Hotel chains in India
Some of the Indian chains like Oberoi, Taj
and ITC have already created their niche over the last 20 or 30 years. They are
now regarded in the global travel market as hotels of high international
standard. Moreover, in view of the attractive future for the Indian hotel
market, a number of international hotel chains have been moving into India in
recent years. Companies such as Hyatt, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Sheraton,
Meridien, Inter-Continental, Shangir-La, Hilton, Park Plaza , Quality Inn and
other mid-market international chains are now present in this country. Most are
expanding their hotel portfolios at a healthy rate of growth. It is estimated
that there are some 250 chain hotels in India , including approximately 100 in
the 5-star category and another 150 in the 3- and 4-star categories. All these
chain hotels are members of FHRAI. They hire some of the brightest managers and
staff in the hotel industry, with more attractive pay scales and opportunities
for international transfers. At the same time, many chain restaurants are also
entering the Indian market with rapidly growing portfolios. They also offer
attractive job opportunities to those trained in hospitality management. |
