International Prospects
There is a high demand for Indian hotel
managers and staff in the international hotel industry. This is particularly so
in the Middle East , in cities such as Dubai . One reason is that the local
population of trained manpower is very limited and there are practically no
hotel management institutions in these countries. The manpower shortage is also
being felt in industrial countries in Europe (including the UK ), the USA ,
Australia , Singapore , Hong Kong etc. They all like to hire Indian hotel and
restaurant managers because of their high level of education, the high education
standards of some hotel management schools in India , and the experience which
they gain by working in the Indian hotel industry. It is estimated that some
20% of Indian hotel management graduates go to foreign countries soon after
their education, either for higher studies or to begin their careers abroad
immediately. There is a greater demand abroad, however, for managers who have
already had some working experience in India and who have a good working record.
Thus, graduates have excellent opportunities for working abroad if they have a
hotel management degree from a good hotel school in India and have already
joined the hospitality industry. This is particularly so in the case of chefs,
who are in great demand in all countries, particularly for restaurants offering
Indian cuisine. In some countries, such as the UK and the USA , visas for such
persons may be granted through a fast-track procedure. In the IT sector,
however, most job opportunities abroad are for short durations of project work
and not on a permanent basis. |
