Prospects in Restaurants
The restaurant sector in India has seen an explosive growth over the last few
years. Expert observers estimate that about hundred new restaurants open in
Delhi every year and another fifty in the satellite towns including Gurgaon and
Noida. A large number of new restaurants are also opening in other big and small
cities in the country. People have more disposable income, younger people are
earning good money and there is a growing trend of eating out.
Many of these restaurants are fine dining restaurants competing with five star
hotels. Many new and trendy bars, pubs and lounges are also setting standards
earlier seen in five star hotels only. A numbers of these up-market restaurants
and bars are hiring trained managers and are paying them competitive salaries.
Similar hiring trends are visible in national and international chain
restaurants including fast food restaurants in the country. According to Mr.
Lalit Nirula, Managing Director, Nirulas Corner House (p) Ltd. Gurgaon, his
chain alone has about 150 trained supervisors and managers and about 50% of
their new recruitments in supervisory positions every year are from degree /
diploma holders from good hotel schools in India . Thus there are very good job
opportunities in the restaurant sector, apart from the hotels. |
