Mr. Rajesh Mishra
I am delighted to
become the President of the FHRAI, the most prestigious body of
the Hotel & Restaurant Association. I am thankful to the FHRAI
Executive Committee for electing me the President for the year
2006-07 who have reposed their confidence, faith and trust in me
which I would try my level best to fulfill.
During my tenure of one year, my focus would be on Technological
Upgradation of all the operations of the FHRAI and the Website
of FHRAI will be completely revamped to bring it to the
International level. My special emphasis would be on taking the
FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management to a greater height.
The quality of education and its administration will further be
streamlined. My effort would be to create Data Bank and
highlight statistics from time to time regarding hospitality
industry by collecting relevant Datas from our members and
industry at large and placing it before the Government for our
mutual benefit. The long awaited demand of the Hotel industry to
grant the infra-structural status u/s 80 IA of Income Tax Act
which allows a 10 years tax holiday as in the case of
infra-structural projects like road, ports, power,
telecommunication etc., and declaring Hotel as an Industry under
Industries (Development & Regulation) Act, 1951 so that the
Hoteliers can get the benefit of electricity at industrial rate
and other benefits applicable to the industries has to be again
highlighted before the Government. The time has come that
uniform taxation policy must be followed by all the State
Governments and Union territories for VAT, Luxury Tax,
Entertainment Tax and State Excise Duty. The Public Private
Participation (PPP) model must be encouraged and further
strengthened for Developing Hotel, Restaurants and food plazas
in future. More thrust should be given to develop Budget Hotels
and also upon Hotel Institute in PPP model by the State
Governments by allotting the land for educational purposes at a
concessional rate.
As our economy is moving at a very robust growth rate of 8% and
in some sectors even 9 to 10%, and the literacy rate of Indian
population is also improving. We must create a civil society by
ensuring that unplanned Bandh and political Hartals without
prior notice must be abolished from our country and the time has
come that the Government should declare Tourism as Essential
Services. The tourists who are ignorant of these unplanned Bandh
get stranded due to this uncivilised behaviour and the
Government must by way of legislation rescue these tourists for
free movement on these days. The All India Technical Education
Council must encourage Section 25 Companies for setting up Hotel
Institute in the country with foreign collaborators and
Government should plan to develop the cities infra-structure in
a planned and systematic manner. Unfortunately, in our country
none of the curriculum had included infra-structure as a subject
and only recently IIM, Ahmedabad has started infra-structure as
a subject which is the need of the hour. Similarly, the
Ecological balance in the hill station must not be disturbed by
haphazard unplanned construction of high rise buildings
resulting in drinking water shortage and sanitation problem.
There are many other issues also in mind which I will take up at
the appropriate time. Very soon we shall be submitting our
pre-budget memorandum for Union Budget 2007 and I shall try to
make it a very forceful presentation before the concerned
ministries.
I would request all our members to please send back the Data
collection form, sent from the Secretariat to create Data Bank
in the shortest possible time so that our presentation before
the Government really becomes meaningful. The Research Wing of
the FHRAI has already been advised to come out with more
research publications for the interest of our members and
industry.
During this year I propose to write a book on the Entrepreneurs
of Hotel & Restaurant Industry - a True story - which I intend
to publish before the end of my tenure. This book will give
inspiration to the young stars to know the success path of the
Captains of Hotel & Restaurant Industry and will be helpful to
them to draw their career path of success in the years to come.
I hope I would be able to meet the expectation of our members
and would try sincerely to fulfill their expectation. Please
join me in taking FHRAI to a new greater height.
Jai Hind !!

Mr. Ruud Reuland
Welcome to
the world of Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne !
Managing a hotel or restaurant or any other hospitality company
is not easy. It is a surprisingly complex but also exciting
challenge, requiring not only considerable business skills and
operational competencies, but especially the ability to lead
people within a constantly changing environment.
The mission of our institute is to provide the global
hospitality industry with the next generation of managers and
leaders. We are therefore permanently looking for ambitious,
highly motivated, young people, who have that extra spark we
call talent. Talent is a key word at EHL: talented students, but
also talented alumni, talented professors and staff members. In
fact all stakeholders should bring in their talents and should
encourage and contribute to the development of talents.
The EHL Board decided sometime ago to extend the benefits of our
excellence and quality hospitality education services, acquired
over the last 112 years, to the global hospitality education
industry. In this spirit, we have entered into an Agreement with
Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI)
for providing consultancy and academic affiliation to the new
FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management being established in
Greater Noida near New Delhi . In our view FHRAI, has a high
reputation for excellence, professionalism and services being
rendered to the hospitality industry in India . We are certain
that our joint efforts will enable the FHRAI Institute to
provide hospitality education of very high standards to the
aspiring students who enrol in this Institute. We are
particularly pleased with this association, as EHL was formed by
the Swiss Hotels Association which is still our parent
organisation.
